Vila Cha was traditionally a fishing village, and it's remembered for its sargaceiras -- the women who gathered seaweed from the shore and hauled it inland for use as fertilizer. The work was backbreaking and the pay was poor, but it sustained families for generations. A monument in town honors them. Today the village is quieter, and the camino passes through without touching the waterfront.

The Road

At the start of town the camino turns away from the shore and passes through the village, gone is the wooden boardwalk. It will stay some distance from the shore until Povoa de Varzim.

Nice place with three beds in a large room. All nice and clean and even with a balcony (we didn’t use however - but that’s because it rained)
Dinner, snack, breakfast and the room for 98 eur - that’s I think is ok.

For €45 we have a wonderful private room, dinner and breakfast. The staff could not be more helpful and the village is truly a fishing village. We loved our stay here.

We had a pilgrim meal feast at Ruben’s in villa cha for 10€

Drink, soup/bread, a full entree, dessert and coffee

Let them know you’re a pilgrim and you get this meal

Worth the extra walk past Labruge.. a small fisher town full of charm.
Albergue de S. Mamede was so welcoming, clean and safe. Edgar cooks a soup for everyone in the evening and then we walk to the beach for sunset. Stay there if you can!

Camino de Sant…

The donativo Albergue Vila Chã was wonderful. This is my 5th Camino. The staff is very helpful and cheerful; it is spotlessly clean, kitchen is well equipped. It’s close to the ocean and has 2 small groceries and several restaurants.

The Albergue is open! I found a different number for them on google and stayed there no problem. Small market around the corner, we made a family dinner in the kitchen :)
