Castelo do Neiva takes its name from a medieval fortress that once guarded the mouth of the Rio Neiva. Almost nothing remains of the castle itself -- the stones were repurposed centuries ago -- but the elevated terrain it occupied is still evident. The village is small and services are limited.

I had seen the comment just below and since the albergue was full, I tried my luck there. Unfortunately, some people are doing woofing right now (and for the next 2 weeks) and are living in the caravan so you won’t find a bed if you go during that time. Nonetheless, I got offered a drink and there are toilets in case you need them.

I was also scared to go alone, as a solo young female traveler, but nothing to worry about !

Shortly before arriving to Castelo do Neiva, and just before crossing the river, there is a man named Michael that lives right on the Camino. He is retired from the military in France. He has a gate and on the gate it says that pilgrims can come in and have a drink, something to eat, and can sleep if they want (he has a caravan for the pilgrims). Speaks French and Portuguese and little English (we only speak English and he was nice to us). If you want to contact him in advance to make sure he is there and the caravan is available for sleeping, he is on Couchsurfing in Esposende or his WhatsApp is +351 934 574 566 (best to write in French). Very nice guy and we highly recommend.

Côté femme, Un seul lavabo, un seul WC et 2 petites douches aux portes transparentes…. Les sanitaires ne sont vraiment pas adaptés à la capacité d’accueil.
Auberge très bruyante.

Alberge has a collaboration with local lady who lands double beds. We had the apartment with more rooms ro ourselves. Clean and nice place witb towels, bedsheets, clothes rack and kitchen. Terrace with a view to the ocean.

Worth a peek but we saw no food here. There is a bathroom. This is the oldest reference to the Camino outside of Spain!

Eine befreundete Pilgerin ist heute (10.06.2019) kurz vor der Kirche von einem älteren Mann mit einem Messer bedroht worden! Sie konnte (ab gesehen von dem Schock) unbeschadet von ihm weg rennen. Bitte aufpassen!
