Barcelinhos sits across the Rio Cavado from Barcelos and has grown into a town in its own right. The Igreja de Santa Maria de Barcelinhos is the main building of note. Cross the bridge over the Cavado to enter Barcelos.

The Road

Leave town across the bridge over the Río Cávado. At the end of the bridge, turn left (against traffic) and follow the curve in the road up to the church and the ‘palace’.

On my way into Barcelinos I stopped here. Enjoyed a ham and cheese pastry, café Americano, and a bottle of water. Only 3 euro! The proprietor, and all of his shoppers and eaters had great banter. I didn’t understand what they were saying, but it was all enjoyable to watch. The pastry was excellent.!

Camino de Sant…

After a long walk we stayed here and it was great. 20€ but felt worth it. Bunks with curtains and lights and plugs for each occupant. Each dorm for 8 has en-suite bathroom. Staff were lovely. Great views from kitchen, breakfast included.
