Malause is a small town on the canal where the variant routes rejoin the official GR65. It has a few shops for basic resupply. The Malause Dam, built in 1973, is the last dam on the Garonne, standing 14.2 m high and feeding the Golfech hydroelectric plant. The town was a seigneury of the Durfort family from the 10th century.

This is a great café stop in Malause - on the chemin if you take the 'high road' through Boudou and just a 400m detour if you follow the canal path. Lovely staff, very clean, great coffee and they're more than happy for you to buy something to eat in the bakery and have it with your coffee in the bar.

I stayed here 4 Sep 2025. Beautifully restored house and a fun, happy atmosphere.

You can find it on Google Maps. Its a very nice gîte that has been updated and is run by a super sweet man named Philip. I can't recommend this place enough.
