Flamarens is dominated by its 13th-century Gascon castle on a feudal mound, first documented in 1289 when it was given as a dowry to a niece of Pope Clement V. The castle was expanded in the 15th century with a main building and donjon. In June 1943, a lightning strike caused a fire that destroyed the roofs. Restoration has been ongoing since 1983 and the castle is partially restored. It's a Historic Monument and sits right on the GR65.
The village itself is tiny, about 140 people. No services. But the silhouette of the castle against the sky as you approach across the sunflower fields is memorable.
