Combarro is one of the most photographed villages in Galicia, and for good reason. The horreos — the granite granaries that are a defining feature of Galician rural architecture — line the waterfront here, some of them practically hovering above the sea at high tide. They were used to dry fish as well as grain, and the visual effect of a row of them standing on their stilts against the ria is unique.

The town is small, compact, and genuinely beautiful in the way that only a working fishing village can be. The camino doesn't actually pass through the best parts — it turns uphill to join the road before you reach the waterfront. Keep going straight instead to see the horreos and the cruceiros that dot the lanes. Getting lost in Combarro would be an achievement, but be aware that other arrow variations exist and could lead you astray.

A few bars and restaurants. The Variante Espiritual crosses the road from here and immediately begins ascending the Monte Redondo.

The Road

The Variante Espiritual crosses the road and immediately begins its ascent of the Monte Redondo. The climb varies in intensity from extremely steep to gently rolling and back again. Go gently.

I didn’t stay here but will if i return. I loved this place. Great to be by the sea. Pretty town. A local man insisted on showing me along the sea front as it was a better view than the camino route. He spoke no English and used his phone to translate. Clearly proud of his town.

I don’t think this town is well suited to pilgrims on a budget. There is no true municipal Albergue, so prices are higher. There are lots of local tourists too, so restaurants are not cheap. I did not feel super welcome as an English speaker, tried Spanish with blank looks and impatience - a few nice experiences at cafe bar Castro Camino, bar a Rosa dos ventos and pineal terazza (although later was v expensive at 50EUR each for dinner).

Would prefer to stay in Poio to at least see the monastery, less touristic

Excellent food and a place to take a seat half way through the day. We almost walked by, but got caught by rain and hustled to find shelter. Ordered some food and drinks which took a bit of time to come out, but the quality of the food made each second worth the wait. If you are passing by, definitely stop in.

Stayed there in May 2023, seemed a reasonable price for a hotel room on booking.com. It's close to the water, good food at at the bat downstairs. Considering the bar, it didn't seem too noisy, but I had just walked almost 30Km from Redondola, so I was already a bit tired, maybe.?
All that said, a good location and price, no complaints from me.

I agree with the opinion expressed above: Pinela Terraza is a lovely place to stop upon entering Combarro. The view of the water is spectacular, the terrace is a comfortable place to put down your pack in a corner, and you can have cerveza, Albariño, americano and/or Santiago cake. And Hotel Combarro, right across the street, is a friendly and comfortable place to prepare for the next morning’s arduous climb to Armenteira.

What an amazing little town that has zest and has great vibes. We are super happy we are spending the night here, it truly is special and beautiful! Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Entrepedras right on the river!

It is a great place to stay. Clean, great garden, good beds, etc. The Village is touristy but worthwhile.

We booked a 2 bedroom apt with Casa Noelmar. When we got to Combarro we were wet and tired. We sent a text thru WhatsApp and the manager met us promptly. It was such a cute historic place. Do be careful if you are tall. Would stay there again anytime! The heat was working - this helped dry our wet clothes.
