The Road

From Peñasieta, the climb begins. The preferred, and more beautiful, route is along the trail so if you spent the night in Peñasieta avoid the temptation of following the road (even though it will get you there). The elevation gain is about 600 meters up to the Alto de Palo, with a few particularly steep sections along the way.

Ask for the key to the bar ( open 10am to 10pm but CLOSED on TUESDAY ). There not often pilgrim on this place, then you are quite sure to have place ) I was the only one on 26 of septembre, I enjoyed it ( you have the key to close the door during the night )
Nice simple place with small kitchen .
Come with your own food to cook ( no shop) or you can have a basic dish to the bar ( for 12 € : fries with chorizo or eggs … but with a delicious tomatoes salad from there garden !! ) . This familial bar is a very cute typical from very small spanish village. They do there own vine ! Soft, testy and 99 centimes the glass ! On the evening they offer basic pinchos of cheese or ham.

If you leave Pola de Allande without food you’ll have to detour off the Camino here. There’s nothing until Berducedo and a steep ascent ahead.

There’s a bench by a swift clear mountain stream roughly 7km from Pola. A great place to take off your shoes and socks and refresh your feet. It’s not quite half way up to the top but worth stopping to eat a bit and chill the feet.
