Cirauqui is perched on a conical hill and seems to go uphill in every direction. The camino enters through a medieval archway and climbs steeply to the Iglesia de San Román at the top, where the plaza and a small albergue provide a resting point. Don't forget to get your credencial stamped under the archway.

Like Mañeru, the village has impressive coats of arms carved into stone facades. The Iglesia de San Román preserves a 2,000-year-old Roman milestone inside — evidence of how old these routes really are. The views from the top of the village across the surrounding farmland and toward the Sierra del Perdón are excellent.

A bar operates on the main street. The descent from Cirauqui is one of the highlights of this stretch — the path drops down through a stone archway and onto an ancient Roman road, still paved with original stones in places, before crossing a Roman bridge over a small stream.

Fiesta

The Day of the Cross is September 14, with celebrations running from September 13 to 19.

History

Excavations in the area have uncovered traces of Roman settlement. The Roman road leaving the village — its original paving stones visible for a stretch — and the Roman bridge below confirm that this hilltop was a waypoint long before the Camino existed. The village name is Basque in origin.

We arrived here damp and chilled, and are absolutely thrilled with Casa Maralotx. Juan makes everything easy, from check-in to wifi access, and the amenities are great: upstairs terrace with laundry lines and view of church across the way, with a hot beverages machine and picnic tables. We have a private room so I can’t speak to the dorms, but our room has everything we need and lovely touches: welcome chocolates, coffee/tea (and tiny chocolate chip muffins in the mugs 😊). We are splurging and having our dirty clothes washed and dried because everything feels damp after staying in an unheated albergue last night following a rainy day. We could not be happier with Casa Maralotx!

One of my overall favorites.

This albergue is now open. Stayed here in August and it is a great little spot in a beautiful historic town. A pilgrim dinner, breakfast and laundry (both machine and hand wash) available. Definitely a worthwhile stop and the only option between Puenta La Reina-Gares and Lorca.

According to a post( on Forum Ivar), the owner or someone close to the owner said it would be closed the entire month of June

Amazing hospitality by Juan and his wife. Outstanding pilgrims dinner in the “cave” of the Albergue. Cute little “bar area” in reception. Patio “hang out” on second floor. Never a line for showers or toilets even though Albergue full. But don’t miss how beautiful the location is! At top of the hill in Ciriqui, right by the old church with its bells. The starling songs and views are magnificent. Just a great experience added to our Camino. Try to make a stop here

Juan, the hospitaliero, is great. The albergue is clean and spacious. Yes, there are not that many showers and toilets. However, the beds are more comfortable and less noisy than at any albergue so far.
The communal dinner was delicious (salad with apple und walnuts; chickpea and mushroom stew; vanilla pudding) and definitely not your usual pilgrims dinner.
Definitely worth a stay!

Juan looked after us from the first moment we walked in with serious blisters! Everything was handled with enthusiasm and efficiency. Albergue spotless, chill out patio/deck really nice. Pilgrim Dinner absolutely superb and cap it all Juan rode his back on into town to make sure the patient was OK!
Thankyou! Debbie and Clive

Loved the Albergue. We had a great communal meal there. The bar is small but is a nice place to catch up with people we saw on the way.
