Calzada de Coto is the first village on the Vía Trajana variant. A bar and a small albergue provide basic services. The village sits along the line of the old Roman road — calzada means 'causeway' or 'paved road,' and the name preserves the route's ancient origins.

The Road

The Vía Trajana continues through open farmland toward Calzadilla de los Hermanillos. The terrain is flat and the walking quiet — this variant sees far fewer pilgrims than the Camino Real.

I rolled through here at 8am hoping to get a café before starting the Roman road. I didn’t see a soul. The overgrown grass made it seem like even more of a ghost town.

This is a lovely Hostal, the hosts are very thoughtful
For some reason everything seems closed on my night here. No bars no restaurant !!!

Camino de Sant…

This alburgue is open not closed. I am staying there now on 14 September 2021. Thought you might like to know.

Camino de Sant…

The village is not far off the main road or the Camino Real. I am staying for the night, then walking back down to the Camino Real in the morning as it is shorter to get to Religios that way. The albergue is clean and serviceable, no WiFi, but Jesus, our host, is great. (written on 04 October).
