History

The Iglesia de San Xulián preserves some Romanesque stonework.

The Road

Near San Xulain the camino is undergoing a rerouting to accommodate the new highway connecting Santiago with Lugo. Most recently this meant walking across the unfinished highway. Changes are frequent and it is best to follow the detour signage.

Essential coffee is amazing. The owner will make you anything you want and is one of the kindest most generous people I have met on the Camino. He makes his own sour dough bread too.

Albergue O abrigadoiro is a great place to eat and sleep. The owner, Pilar, and her colleague are so friendly and helpful. Machine wash for just €4. Perfect place to start early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Make sure you get a yogurt with honey. Best thing I have had in my life. Homemade yogurt. Delicious honey. Mix it up / ribbon it through. So good. Hands down best yogurt I have come across.

Lovely family owned Albergue with a bar across the road that has great food. I arrived after a long day of rain and was provided with newspaper for my shoes, a spot beside the fire and bed with real sheets and duvet. A lovely village. Highly recommend

It’s hard to choose a best one, but this is definitely one of the top contenders. The pies and cakes look great too, but I’m still full from breakfast so didn’t get to eat them. Service is really good too.

Both the Albergue and the bar are beautiful, the food was great, and the service top notch. Would certainly recommend!
