Hazas is the center of the Liendo area — a broad valley with several scattered settlements. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands opposite the albergue. Basic services are available. From here the camino climbs to the N-634 before splitting — the official route descends to Tarrueza, while a shorter option stays on the main road directly to Laredo.

The Road

From the albergue the camino climbs up to join the N-634, turning left to follow it a short distance. When it splits the official camino turns left to leave the main road and descend to Tarrueza. You can alternatively keep on the N-634 on a shorter course to Laredo; this option will rejoin the official camino at a large junction.

I’m walking el Norte in Sept/Oct 2025. Can anyone who’s stayed at an albergue that does not take reservations in Liendo, and used Paq Mochila (Correos) to transport their luggage, recommend a bar/cafe that accepts the drop off and delivery of bags via Paq Mochila?

Took red route today from Liendo into Laredo. That part is about 6.5 km. Beautiful coastline views. It is a bit more elevation gain than the highway into Laredo. It is mostly road (paved or gravel) except for one section of trail (the blue shortcut portion in Buen Camino App). It rained a lot last night and a few short pieces of the shortcut section were muddy, but we got through with dry feet. Allow a bit more time than the distance alone would suggest as the shortcut section will be a bit slower. The shortcut section approaches the cliff edge in a short section, but never closer than 3 m. If you don't want to do the shortcut section, the Buen Camino app has a longer route that follows farm tracks. Enjoy!

Until summer season starts, the albergue is only open from Monday to Friday. It's 10 €, you can do your washing for free (there's even washing liquid for it). It was very clean and has a good kitchen. Nice hot shower.
The hospitaleros come from 7-8pm to check you in but you can get in and settle yourself earlier.

Having followed the map at La Magdalena and exhausted ourselves on the hill, we took the bus from Liendo to Laredo. Well worth the €4.

Really helpful staff, translating everything in to English. Not the easiest of diners, I’m vegetarian and my sisters gluten free. €12 for 3 courses but we had 2 courses with a bottle of wine for €7:50 each. Excellent

Absolutely beautiful accommodation. Really helpful staff. £65 for lovely twin room. Highly recommend.
