Camponaraya sits amid the vineyards of the Bierzo valley. A bar and an albergue provide services. The village is functional rather than scenic, but the walking through vineyards is pleasant.

The Road

The route continues through vine country toward Cacabelos. The terrain is gently undulating and the mountains you crossed are now a dramatic backdrop to the east.

Stayed here last night in one of their double rooms. Everything was spotless and thoughtfully decorated. They even had air conditioning!

Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant was closed the day we were there, but they gave us a key to the patio so we could wash and hang up our laundry. It was like having our own, private backyard.

The upside of the bar being closed meant that we got to try a couple of the other places in town that the owner recommended

La Senda — hostel and restaurant halfway through town with amazing breakfast options - eggs and bacon , toast and tortillas. So good. Nice place with super clean bathrooms. On the left by a roundabout. Skip the other places.

Rather like the previous poster, out of season stays are a lottery. It took me a long time to get in, ultimately through Booking.com help desk. No food, drink, real person options available. But the room is beautiful and I imagine that during the season it’s fabulous.,

I had a similar experience earlier on my Camino. Just be aware that the descriptions on booking.com and elsewhere are only valid for high season when everything is open.

Unfortunately we did not have the same experience of this hostel / Albergue. Because of the great reviews for accommodation and food we booked. There was zero food on offer at the venue and the owner recommended the pizza shop 50m up the road, which was also closed, along with every other restaurant in town. Thankfully the supermarket was open and we could get some bread. Such a disappointing Albergue and town for us after walking 27kms to stay there.

Fabulous food virtually all day. Breakfast anytime. Full bar too. We got Burgers and they were amazing. Awesome eclectic place too. Just 6 minutes walk off the Camino, a great find!

Al Naraya is a lovely hostel except it’s right by a busy road. So you’ll choose to have fresh air and noise, or you’ll close the window.
