La Virgen del Camino is one of the most important Marian pilgrimage sites in the province of León. The modern Santuario, designed by the Dominican architect Francisco Coello de Portugal and completed in 1961, is a stark concrete structure that divides opinion — you'll either find it powerful or brutal. The facade features 13 massive bronze apostle statues by the sculptor José María Subirachs (who later worked on Sagrada Familia's Passion facade).

Inside, the venerated image of the Virgen del Camino is the focus of devotion. The sanctuary draws large crowds on feast days.

The town is essentially a roadside settlement with bars, restaurants, and a pharmacy. The camino splits here into two routes toward Hospital de Órbigo.

This Donativo is open and in full force. Awesome hosts who really care and a super clean and modern albergue. When I was there the pilgrims and hospitalero’s made a fantastic meal together at a community table. Great stories, great food, great albergue!

It's about the second cafe on the main road. Great breakfast stop. Giant croissant filled with runny egg, bacon, lettuce, mayo plus freshly squeezed orange juice.

Sensational breakfast here - excellent coffee, fresh orange juice and the most delicious toast with fresh cheese, honey and nuts, and also toast with tomato and olive oil. 10/10 recommend.

What an amazing place, friendly people, and across from one of the most beautiful catholic churches I’ve ever seen. Buen Camino.

El Virgen del Camino might have more cafes per capita than any other town we have seen.

There are at least 6 or 7 along the Camino and we saw another 3 or more on a side street.

So if you're leaving León early and want a stop for coffee/desayuno, this may be a perfect town in which to stop.
