The camino delivers you directly to the front door of the Monasterio de Santa Maria de Armenteira, a 12th-century Cistercian foundation set in a quiet valley. The church's Romanesque portal and the cloister are the highlights. Two bars in town — the one directly in front is the more popular. The albergue is a few hundred metres further along, following the arrows.

From Armenteira, the camino joins the Ruta da Pedra e da Auga — a popular local trail following a creek downhill to sea level, passing dozens of abandoned water mills. The right-hand side of the creek keeps you closer to the mills and the water. The walking is beautiful and the descent is gradual.

History

According to legend, a monk named Ero founded the monastery and one day walked into the nearby woods, where he sat listening to a bird sing. When he returned, 300 years had passed. The story of San Ero is one of Galicia's most enduring legends and is similar to the tale of Rip Van Winkle — though it predates it by several centuries.

The Road

From Armenteira the camino joins a popular (among locals) trail known as the Ruta de la Piedra y del Agua. It follows along a creek, with trails on both sides, as it descends to sea level. Along the way, it passes several dozen abandoned water mills. Note that although you can safely and easily follow both sides of the river, it is the right-hand side that keeps you closer to the mills and the water.

It is a bit of a walk beyond the monastery. But we loved Villa Laredo. Very clean and modern. Spectacular views. Nice breakfast room with coffee and croissant/ toast buffet. Very comfortable rooms.

Lovely location, but what made it special was the lovely family that run it. Nothing was to much trouble for them. Rooms were comfortable and luxurious after a few nights in Albergue

No beds were available, Albergue booked days ahead , Monastery wasn't taking Pilgrims now , so 8 of us Pilgrims booked the most beautiful home close by the Monastery. Pool , pool table , huge home and very beautiful. It cost us 40€ per Pilgrim and worth every cent booking for 8 . It can sleep 9 , three bathrooms. Just a better option than taxi down and then back up the next morning.

Museum man still about, immediately grabbed one of the ladies in our group, putting his arm around her and trying to get us to go to his museum. Think he was put off by the men in our group.
If you see him, stay right along the river and keep going.

This was absolutely amazing, it’s not on the Camino but they are happy to pick you up at the monastery when you arrive, they even offer us to take us again at 7pm for the pilgrim blessing, they were very friendly and nice, the house is lovely with a beautiful terrace, you can have dinner, they have “menu peregrino” it was really good, the breakfast was excellent!! I really recommend this place, thank you Ana and Eva for everything:)

I agree with the comments on the museum man on the way down from armenteira. He was trying to hold my hands and pull me into his museum. Explaining both in English and Spanish about his museum. As an Asian I would pretend that I don't understand either language and just tell him I am walking to Vilanova de Arousa. While he is very insistent, I would recommend any female pilgrim to just ignore him and walk on.

And all others.
There was an elderly man shortly behind a Armenteira next to the river and came way to close to basically ever women we talked to that day
From being over friendly and wanting each one to come to his museum just off the track, to trying to dance with 1, trying ti kiss3 out of the 5 women we met. He grabbed on by the arm and she backed away that she almost fell on the river. She felt, like the others extremely uncomfortable because she was holding her way to tight.
We will also report to guarda civil. This is a watch out.

Just before you get to the bars in Armenteira there is a mobile home on your right. It has a queen bed in a separate room, a room with 2 twin beds and a room with a bunk bed. Capacity is 6 people. Very small, but close to the bars. Currently not much else being offered accept a place to stay. 15 euro for a twin and 30 euro for the queen. Shower, hot water, kitchen, no laundry, no wifi, but you can walk to the bar and use theirs. Would be fun if your a small group and wanted your own place. +34 670 32 71 86
