You'll cross the Río Iranzu on a double-arched Romanesque bridge to enter the old part of Villatuerta. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is worth a visit for its Romanesque elements and the carved capitals inside.

For food, Bar Lara has a local reputation for good cooking. Bar El Rebote is another option. If you're just passing through and need a coffee, the polideportivo (sports hall) at the entrance to town or the panadería will do. A small shop covers basics.

The village sits in the valley of the Iranzu, with Estella visible ahead to the northwest. The terrain between here and Estella is flat and easy.

Fiesta

The Virgen de la Asunción is celebrated on August 15. San Veremundo is honored on March 8.

History

Artifacts confirming Roman occupation have been uncovered here and along much of the road back to Puente la Reina. Sections of the route between the two towns follow the original Roman road, and the A-12 motorway has obliterated other stretches. The Romanesque bridge over the Iranzu is a fine example of the medieval river crossings that mark this section of the Francés.

It was a hot day (late May) and I didn't want to walk all the way to Estella. This was the PERFECT place to stop. The river is perfect for soaking your feet or even swimming, while admiring the Roman bridge.
Albergue Etxeurdina was amazing. There aren't a lot of options for food, so a few of us cooked. The grocery store had everything we needed. The kitchen was perfectly stocked and there were things left by past pilgrims (oil, spices and even a bottle of wine!)
The hosts were lovely and the place had wonderful energy.

Walked in, friendly welcome with cold water, little pool to have a dip after a hot walk, 3 Euro jugs of wine, delicious vegetarian 3 course dinner, wonderful staff and great breakfast - highly recommend!

I stayed here two nights because of a bad knee. The host is super friendly and the dinner is great. Good atmosphere! There are footbaths and hammocks.
I definitely recommend this place.

An amazing stay and worth the stop

Walking along the road into town, I noticed a cut to a river walk below. Do take that scenic route that parallels the Caminó, and, then, rejoins it at the first albergue.

What an absolute gem. Owner is super helpful and enjoys his work. We stayed in a beautiful private room. Gave us several choices of routes to take tomorrow. Don't miss this gem.
