The Iglesia de San Emeterio and San Celedonio is the most massive building for miles — a disproportionately large church for the hamlet it serves. Like the Tree in Gernika, it was historically a meeting point for the Lords of Bizkaia. A bar near the church provides refreshment before the walk to Larrabetzu.

The Road

After passing the church and bar at the start of town the camino comes to the main road where it turns left and follows the road all the way to nearby Larrabetzu.

Following the trees there are numerous large fallen trees blocking the Camino footpath route from Eskerika to Goikolexea. It is possible to navigate them but pretty treacherous so pilgrims may want to consider the road route instead

Camino de Sant…

From Goikolexea to Lezama it is only walking on road pavement/sidewalk so if your feet are tired (there is already quite a lot of walking on pavement this day) I recommend to take the bus from Goikolexea to Lezama via Larrabetzu. Alternatively take it from Larrabetzu to Lexama if you want to stop in Larrabetzu, which is quite nice and cozy.
