San Martín de la Tercia is a tiny village in the valley below the Alto de San Antón. There are no pilgrim services here, but the village is the last sign of habitation before Poladura. A handful of stone houses cluster around a small church. The road connecting San Martín to Poladura is short and carries little traffic.

After a long hard stage, I was determined to find this shortcut. Too determined. I got too close to the beehives and they began to attack me. I ran and was able to escape with only one sting, but then the long way through San Martin involved an insultingly big hill and too much distance. A local encouraged me to take the highway between San Martin and Poladura.

I realized I missed this and so I walked back. I saw the beehives and attempted to cut across but there is an electric fence that blocks the path. Take the way into and out of San Martin since that is also the only place the camino has the trail markers.

Easy to miss the shortcut and end up in San Martin. Look for the beehives, in the pasture, on the left as San Marin comes into view down valley. Keep the beehives on your left and cross the small stream at the gap in the fence and look for the boot path through the shrubs. The path then opens up and markers become more prevalent.

The shortcut is awful and next to impossible to see or find. It seems to run through a cow pasture. Go through San Martin.

Watch your map for shortcut. Not waymarked cos it crosses private land but there's a trail if you're looking out for it. Was advised today by locals that there's no problem using it. Saves time wasted going into St Martin for nothing.
