Arroyo de los Zahurdones

The Road

The gate to the municipal farmlands of Berrocal is usually closed. If it is, look to the right for a separate entrance for hikers. The camino from here to Almaden is along farm tracks and lanes. It descends to the Arroyo de los Zahurdones (4.7km) and includes a particularly steep (but short) ascent up to the Cerro del Calvario (6.4km). From there it descends into Almaden.

There's a little booth by the park gate. Has a bench and a bin 😀 Ideal place to shelter ftom the sun - or the rain, in our case.

This in the only water point on the way to Almaden de la Plata. Site, drink lots and refill your water here

While this seems the simpler part of this stage, it can be draining. Your walking on the road, probably in the early hours to avoid the heat, and it just keeps going with little to break it up. While no big climbs there is a constant up and and down effect (mostly up).
