‌ALTERNATE ROUTE to Villalcázar via Villovieco

After Población de Campos, an alternate route branches off to Villalcázar de Sirga via Villovieco. This variant bypasses Revenga de Campos and Villarmentero de Campos — neither of which has much to offer — and follows quieter farm tracks through open countryside.

The main route follows the road more closely and passes through both villages. Either route reaches Villalcázar de Sirga; the Villovieco variant is slightly shorter and more rural. Both are flat and well-marked.

Official camino now starts on the river, and turns off at Revenga. I started on river and then continued past the Revenga turnoff as recommended by a prior comment, but note it is overgrown and I got very wet feet on a dewy morning. Very pretty though, probably worth it

I’ve nothing against Revenga, but to walk the lovely track, stick to the riverside path and don’t go into Revenga. It will bring you to Villovieco just 1km away and the bar on the left as you approach is gorgeous. I had a friendly chat with the young guy working there, and enjoyed a most beautiful freshly baked orange cake and coffee.

Definitely take the river route. There is new construction that makes it even more direct than is shown on the app. Follow the signs that say Sendero del Rio Ucieza. There are services along the path as you draw adjacent to Villovieco. Look for the basketball court.

The river route made this the best day of the Camino so far for me. The path was mostly gravel. The river route was filled with tall trees and birds singing. We even heard frogs in conversation. Very serene and a nice flat “hike” through nature.

We took the River route which was lovely and well marked but judging by the distances in this app was 1.5km longer (roadside signs also say 1.5km longer).

Just after crossing the river a lovely bar with huge garden and lots of seats. Many food options and lovely place to have a break
