A small village where the camino splits — the official route continues south along a pedestrian path beside the main road, while a coastal option follows the N-634 across the river. The albergue is currently closed, but a bar may offer a private room. Basic services.

The Road

The camino splits in El Pontarrón. The official route continues due south along a pedestrian path adjacent to the main road (which becomes the CA-151) and a coastal option follows the N-634 across the river.

This is our 3rd Camino. The bar does have a stamp, but you have to ask the most unfriendly person I’ve met on 3 Caminos. Wow.

After nights in dormitories this is heaven! The people are lovely and the bar does delicious calamari. Room is clean and comfortable with towels.Luxuriating in my private room!

Susanah was friendly and the room is 35 euros if you share the queen bed with a friend. Vintage experience.

Sat down for a coffee and a toast.
The bar owner who is a woman were not happy that I didn't speak that much spanish. She talked loud to the other customers in spanish about how irritating it was that us walking the camino didn't speak spanish. That I understood. It was not such a nice feeling. I wanted to ask her if she would study german before going to Germany, but how should I ask her.
Anyway it was nice to sit for a short break.

The bar El Pontarron is not only a bar, it's also à little hotel with 4 rooms. Old but clean, they cost 20€. It's possible to eat at the bar, so it was a interesting accommodation for me.

Walked to Sonabia and locals advised not to continue because route extremely dangerous with several accidents needing helicopter rescue. Walked back to Oriñon and spent the night in a cheap hotel

This is the coastal route after Sonabia. If you see the black arrows then this path is best avoided.

The route is marked with black arrows painted on rocks. I went this way today and turned back after finding myself scrambling over boulders with cliffs to either side. There was about 500m where one step wrong could be you off a cliff edge. No idea why this route is shown on the map.
