El nombre Itziar, y algunas derivaciones del mismo, es un nombre popular dado a las mujeres vascas. Su origen se remonta al siglo VIII, cuando se construyó un templo en reverencia a Santa María de Itziar. Su estatua permanece aquí, y es venerada tanto por los marineros como por los peregrinos.

The Road

Desde Itziar el camino gira hacia el norte para regresar al mar en Deba. Pasado la iglesia, gire a la derecha en la primera bifurcación y siga el carril rural.

We read comments that there is nothing in this town so stopped at a terrible cafe at the bottom of the hill next to the highway where we were charged 17 euro for 2x bocadillos with nothing but meat in them and 2x cokes. When we walked through this town there were at least 2x bars that were open. This was around 1pm end of a July

I found this hotel, it's 2km off track, but then there is a shortcut to Deba so no additional length.
€75 for room for two with ensuite. Really nice place, helpful staff and good food
