. Vriendelijke man. 👍

Other guidebooks have said that most people prefer to stay at Almendralejo. Having arrived in Torremejia, I can see why…

We booked 1 room with 4 beds in Alburgue Rojo de Plata on the phone with the male owner, but when we arrived the lady of the house would not allow it until the 12 bed dorm was filled, and then the 6 bed dorm to go.

When we went to Hostal Melenium advertising single beds, the receptionist was unfriendly and said it’s sold out except for $30 single rooms. Given there was availability on booking.com I booked a bed for €15 but she insisted that it was worth €20 and that I gave her €5 cash without a receipt. After 28kms walking from the crack of dawn in the heat of the sun, I was in no mood for extortion, so I rang booking.com. she then relented and told me to take the last bed upstairs.

We tried to get food and was told everything is shut, except a dry boccadilla with 2 small pieces of cheese and some jamon (no butter or oil) €4.50. Worst meal ever in Spain. And worst town ever on the Camino.

Sorry, I am being as fair as possible here.
Do yourself a favour and stay at Almendralejo.
Walk to Torrmejia is you must but take the bus back to Almendralejo and start from there to Merida the next day.

The person in charge was very lovely. However, I was a bit dissapointed with the place. For unknown reason I couldn’t take the bed in dormitory although later I saw it was completely empty. I was charged for the single room which I didn’t want in the first place and it wasn’t even cleaned after the previous people. I’m not sure what the situation was and maybe as I don’t speak Spanish there was some misunderstanding but I think it would be fair for someone to come and Clean or offer a discount instead of the full price.
