There was nothing open in Hornillos, so stock up on food and water in Burgos or Tardajos before travelling through to Hontanas.

Ordered vegetarian meal and served chicken paella.
Grumpy cook said he wasn't told.
Dished up a plain Omelette which was ok. Grateful for wine though
Best to go to a bar in town as they are all good
It's a pretty village

Not so busy but cramped and full room
Why not spread us out?

Lovely place, big garden in this charming village. A free help-yourself-breakfast is also provided (bread, ham, cheese, jam, coffee, tea, orange juice).

The woman running seems very efficient but don't get on the wrong side of her, as I did after a genuine misunderstanding. As a result, my stay here was completely spoiled. It is the one place on the camino which holds a bad memory for me.

Others mentioned this bar also , and we can only say thank you . We found it as we walked through and on entering a scented candle was burning in the entry way . Warm and so welcoming , it was 10 am and we had walked 10 kms in the cold rain . I asked what they could offer us to eat and on hearing lentils we were both sold . And oh my goodness, a bowl of deliciousness . So friendly and kind , good coffee and Alan asked was 10 am too early for a Guinness as they have it on tap . Best breakfast we have had since leaving Saint Jean Pied de Port . Because it was the second cafe it possibly gets missed , but plenty of room in this one .

What a fabulous facility! Clean, great outdoor area, fantastic meal, everything you can hope for at the end of a day walking.

The best part of Hornillos was the pilgrim mass and blessing. The town is tiny and the food was okay. Stayed in the Municipal which was clean and comfortable. No dinner was provided and restaurants don’t necessarily open at the posted hours. Ended up eating at 8, which for us is late.
When we entered Hontanas the next morning we instantly regretted not having stayed there instead.

Cafe on left as you come into town - nicest man ever and the hugest crunchy roll I’ve ever eaten. Well worth a stop

The restaurant and albergue is new having opened less than a year ago. The beautiful sounds of relaxing music will draw you up the short walkway to both indoor and outdoor seating, bathrooms and delicious food. It is definitely an oasis. Don't miss it!

Don’t make the mistake of not filling up water. No services (or shade) until Hontanas
