Il nome Itziar, e alcune sue derivazioni, è un nome popolare dato alle donne basche. La sua origine risale all'VIII secolo, quando fu costruito un tempio in venerazione di Santa Maria de Itziar. La sua statua rimane qui ed è venerata sia dai marinai che dai pellegrini.

Il cammino

Da Itziar il Cammino gira a nord per tornare al mare a Deba. Dopo la chiesa, gira a destra al primo bivio e segui la strada di campagna. Non noterai altre autostrade mentre ti dirigi verso Deba, ma comunque stanno scavando un tunnel sotto di te.

We read comments that there is nothing in this town so stopped at a terrible cafe at the bottom of the hill next to the highway where we were charged 17 euro for 2x bocadillos with nothing but meat in them and 2x cokes. When we walked through this town there were at least 2x bars that were open. This was around 1pm end of a July

I found this hotel, it's 2km off track, but then there is a shortcut to Deba so no additional length.
€75 for room for two with ensuite. Really nice place, helpful staff and good food
