As of posting, it seems like things have been rearranged to make it easier to find the castro. The Camino marker and a sign for the castro itself will both point you up a steep hill past a cement building. At the top of the hill, on the left, should be a sign with some info about the castro and a dirt path breaking off from the Camino. Just follow that path to find the ruins. After you’ve (respectfully) visited, you can keep following the path, which will dump you back out onto the Camino a short distance from where you left it.

We were happy to find this place open until 3 pm and again at 6 pm. Nice thin crust pizza, very fresh salad mixta, and good wine selection. Very friendly service. A nice option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We were grateful for it being nearby.

There’s a bar (O Castro) in town that has pizza and some burgers in addition to tapas. It was open at 6pm. I’m not sure if it was open earlier in the afternoon but signage in the restaurant indicated they were open for breakfast at 7am.

A friend has told me last night that there was nothing available in terms of food at all. They walked back to Gonzar before the options there closed.

Camino de Sant…

To find the Castro, keep going up the hill past the new-looking cement building. As of October 2021, the building was incomplete and there was nothing to see around it. Pilgrims milled around it thinking it was the Castro- it is not. Keep going up the hill off the Camino just a bit farther.

Camino de Sant…

The albergue as you enter the town has food. Nowhere else does . Stop there if you’re hungry

Camino de Sant…

No shops or bars in this village is open 2020 due to covid, so if you sleep here bring food!

Camino de Sant…

Casa pedrigueira is the above mentioned pension we stayed in. I think it might be newish.
