Wenn du dich entscheidest, die Nacht in Sahagún zu verbringen, solltest du die Stadt erkunden. Sie ist nicht der schönste Ort, aber es gibt ein paar versteckte Juwelen, die dir einen Einblick in ihre illustre Vergangenheit geben. Einst rivalisierte sie mit Burgos und León an Bedeutung und Größe.

Aus unbekannten Gründen hat das Rathaus den Camino-Pfad durch die Stadt so gezeichnet, dass er fast jedes Gebäude überspringt, das einen Wert hat

 

Der Weg führt an fast allen sehenswerten Gebäuden vorbei und umgeht die Plaza Mayor komplett. Wenn du die Stadt erkunden willst, musst du den markierten Weg verlassen; siehe grüne Alternative auf der Karte.

Notice

Eine sehr schöne Urkunde bekommst du im Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina auf dem Weg aus Sahagún, einer Art halbem Weg nach Compostela. Siehe die Karte für den Standort, da es nicht auf dem eigentlichen Camino liegt.

Fiesta

Markttag ist der Samstag. Winterpilger können San Tirso am 28. Januar feiern. San Juan de Sahagún am 12. und 13. Juni. Fiesta de Peregrina am 2. Juli, und San Lorenzo am 9. und 10. August.

History

Sahagún verdankt seinen Namen dem Märtyrer San Facundo aus dem 4. Jahrhundert, der zusammen mit San Primitivo in der Nähe begraben wurde. Aus diesem Grund hat der Ort mehr als genug Kämpfe zwischen Christen und Muslimen erlebt. Obwohl die Christen am Ende den Sieg davontrugen, wechselte die Stadt nicht weniger als fünf Mal den Besitzer. Bei jedem Wechsel wurden Kirchen zerstört und wieder aufgebaut. Heute sind nur noch 4 der ursprünglich 9 Kirchen erhalten.

Stop at the Oficina de Turismo de Sahagún (also the muni albergue) to get the halfway certificate! €3 plus €1 if you want a cardboard tube to put it in.

Camino de Sant…

We stayed here last year in a twin room with bathroom and made a bee line for them this year. You will never experience a more pilgrim orientated stay on the Camino. Our private room cost 10 euros each, the bunks are 6. Breakfast is help yourself and leave a donation and mass for those who wish to go. Super clean quiet and comfortable with a really tranquil atmosphere. Perfect to recharge you batteries. The eving meal is included in the price, basic but good, please note, not on a Sunday.

Camino de Sant…

The compostela is not available at the church. I went there today and had to walk back into town to the biblioteca, library, in Plaza de Santiago to get it. It looks well and is printed in colour so I went across the road from the library to the post office, correos, and posted it home as I didn't want to damage it.

Stop at the Oficina de Turismo de Sahagún (also the muni albergue) to get the halfway certificate! €3 plus €1 if you want a cardboard tube to put it in.

Camino de Sant…

I ended up staying at Hostal Escarcha for 3 nights in May 2022 because I tested positive for Covid. It turned out to be a nice place to recover. Nice view of the courtyard from my window. A nice double bed and pillow that stretched across the bed or you could fold in half. Each room had it's own bathroom with shower. Had 2 night stands, a desk and chair. It's been around around awhile. It used to have a bar downstairs. The room also had a TV that also played radio stations, tho the tv stations were understandably only in Spanish. There's a supermercado a few blocks and one of the main plaza is a block away. Outlet next to the bed with dual light switches. Was clean and came with large towels and sheets and comforter. I would definitely stay there again and maybe see some of the sights this time.

Have dinner in the Plaza Mayor and enjoy the scene as multiple generations converge for a strong social, family scene. Well worth staying over for.

Don‘t get the halfpoint certificate! Not worth it! You pay 3€ „entrance fee“ to visit the museum and when you are finished the lady at the ticket office just prints out the certificate with your name on it (which is included in the entrance fee). Simple Word Document. Nothing special.

All I’ve wanted for the past month was a filet mignon and a couple old fashions. So I tried this place. The tenderloin is par for the course. But if you decide to eat here, it’s worth it only for the service that Diego provides. World-class service, outstanding beverages, tailor made to your whim and free pour with Diego. If you do come here, and if you do see Diego, tell him first thing: “solo el cielo es mejor que una excelente bebida.” You will be well cared for. Don’t forget to tip kindly. If you can afford to eat here, they need the money more than you do.
