AUSWEICHROUTE VON BORRENES NACH LAS MÉDULAS

Diese Off-Road-Route führt dich direkt zum kultigen Orellán-Aussichtspunkt (Mirador de Orellán), dem Ort mit der besten Aussicht auf Las Médulas. Du kommst auch an den Stollen vorbei (die besichtigt werden können), den alten Tunneln, durch die das Wasser mit zunehmender Geschwindigkeit durch immer enger werdende Räume gepresst wurde, damit es die Hügel hochsprengen und das Gold ausspucken konnte. Vom Mirador aus kannst du entweder hinunter zum Dorf Las Médulas gehen oder das Dorf ganz umgehen, indem du weiter nach Puente Domingo Flórez fährst. Die Alternative ist etwa 11 km lang und hat einen Höhenunterschied von 475 m.

Die offizielle Camino-Route von Borrenes bis nach Las Médulas hat etwa 300 Höhenmeter, aber denk daran, dass du diese zusätzlichen Höhenmeter irgendwann zurücklegen musst, wenn du den Aussichtspunkt Orellán besuchen willst!

Saturno und Soledad (alias Marisol) im Centro de Turismo Rural Cornatel können dir viele Informationen geben.

Die Alternative ist ziemlich gut markiert, aber ein GPS sollte benutzt werden. Dieser Weg hat den großen Vorteil, dass du den besten Aussichtspunkt in Las Médulas erreichst, bevor du in die Stadt kommst, sodass du den Nachmittag für andere Dinge nutzen kannst. Der Höhenunterschied ist größer als auf der offiziellen Route und die Strecke ist auch 4 km länger.

Seguimos a alternativa de Borrrenes para Orellan. A vegetação densa mencionada em comentários anteriores foi removida, e o trilho é perfeitamente transitável, além de ser belo. Havia poucas evidências dos incêndios recentes até chegarmos à aldeia de Orellan, e para a curta distância entre lá e o miradouro, os trabalhadores locais nos orientaram a permanecer na estrada sem trâfego. As galerias estão fechadas para visitas devido aos incêndios, mas as vistas maravilhosas permanecem. Como anotado acima, o trilho não tem marcações, portanto o GPS é essencial. 26/9/25.

In order to have an easier time with the terrain and way-marking I suggest staying on the road from Borrenes past La Chana.
The path wasn’t cleared at all after La Chana. There was tall grass everywhere and overgrown bushes, shrubs, and thorny plants. I had to shove past large brambles blocking the path more than once and had limited ground visibility. Wild boars are in the forest too so be sure to make enough noise so they hear you coming. In the end, the approach is nicer than entering las médulas town and then climbing up to the viewpoint.

The first part on the alternate route (up until Orellán) is not marked at all and a lot of areas that not taken care of. It doesn’t seem like a lot of people are using this path so depending on the day it might take some effort to get through high grass and wilderness. In my case I also had to claim across two rockfall areas and fallen trees. The climbs and descends are relatively steep with uneven grounds with rocks or grown over paths and if the weather is not good it can get quite dangerous. Make sure to watch your GPS as it is easy to get off track in a few spots. If you are fit, confident in your abilities, and not overly sore (or handicapped by an injury/condition or bad blisters of previous days) it is absolutely worth the extra effort. The hike between Orellán and the Mirador de Orellán is well marked and relatively easy (some steep areas but walkable wide paths) and you are rewarded by gorgeous views across the hills. The Mirador de Orellán itself is an incredible viewpoint and definitely worth a detour.
