They must do something different in the off-season her because I didn't have a pleasant experience. Stayed here 26/11/2024. On arrival, she sprayed my bag (including reservoir drinking hose) with an unknown pesticide. When she took me upstairs to pick a bed, there was food and dishes from breakfast from the previous pilgrims. In the dorm, there were beds with dirty sheets and towels still lying around. They only had 2 pilgrims the night before so they had gone days without cleaning. The bathrooms still had dirty towels in them. I almost filled up my water bottle but thought to ask first. She then told me I couldn't drink the water because the system was off. I was wondering when she was going to tell me this. No potable water for pilgrims?! Food was very expensive but the only nice thing about the place. At night, i was only in bed 5 mins and I had sharp bites. BED BUGS! I immediately contacted her and went into the shower and washed the clothes on me with very hot water. The owner blamed me and pilgrims. I told her I haven't been exposed and didn't put my backpack on the bed and hadn't been in the bed at all before that moment. I asked her what else I needed to do. She told me to switch beds. This was her only solution. I reached out to her more but she didn't return any of my messages and they don't live on site. I had to stay in the only available bed which was right next to the affected bed but with a rubber mattress. I didn't sleep. The other pilgrim and I got up early cuz it was an awful sleep. They had left out old bread, fruits that had turned and set out milk which had been previously opened but was unrefrigerated. We left as soon as the sun came up. Couldn't get out fast enough. Went and did a thorough cleaning after I left the place and luckily caught it before I had fallen asleep. This place is incredibly expensive for what you get and wouldn't recommend anyone staying here.

I seccond those who are positive about this place as the one of the best places to stay the last night before entering Santiago. It is not the cheapest, but I think fair for the unique setting and experience they offer. Here you can buy a beer in the bar, order bbq or other delicious meals. Breakfast in the morning. Out of season, you may need to call to get a bed as the albergue is officially closed. Beds are good. When cold they get the fireplace upstairs going. I could not ask for more the last night on the camino.

Price is very steep for what is given. The pool is a plus, however, everything else is meh. The beds are standard, no plugs for top bunks, wifi barely reaches the dorms and the bar is expensive for what it is. The owners seemed very tired when we arrived and the man had no respect for me and a few others who were sleeping when he came in with a booming voice showing others where to unpack. Woke us all up. I cannot comment on the meal as I went into the village for something cheaper. Washing costs 8 euros!

There are loads of places to choose from. I'd avoid this place if you can.

Our last night before arriving at Santiago was probably our most memorable and enjoyable of the Portuguese Coastal Camino. Our hosts at Albergue O Lagar do Jesus provided an exceptional evening. The property was magnificent, the wine and tapas around an open fire with other pilgrims was really enjoyable as was the included breakfast, but what really sets the albergue apart from others was the warmth of welcome and attention provided by our hosts. Highly recommended place to stay, and a quick trip on to Santiago in the morning.

Camino de Sant…

We just stayed at the above mentioned albergue right before Vilar, it was the perfect last albergue stay. My favorite since we left Lisbon.

Camino de Sant…

José runs an amazing and beautiful hostel in Vilar called O Lagar de Jesus. It’s right on the Camino path, and he serves tapas, beer, etc. We stopped just for coffee and a bite, and when I told him I want to learn to make Spanish tortilla, five minutes later he invited us into the kitchen and taught me! Well recommended if you need a stop before the remaining ~20km to Santiago.
