Camposancos

Several companies now offer the crossing from Caminha to A Guarda, and the ride takes around 20 minutes. The schedule varies with the tide, so you'll need to check locally or call ahead -- your accommodation in Caminha will almost certainly have the timetable posted, along with a link to make a reservation. Bikes are accepted.

The crossing itself is pleasant, especially in the morning when the estuary is calm. You're moving from Portugal to Spain, so adjust your watch forward one hour when you land. If you're waking at the same time as the day before, expect it to be darker than usual.

Did not have the most positive experience with Xacobeo Transfers to cross the channel. Their boat “broke” so they had to have another boat come get us after they dropped of their customers. This caused a 30 minute delay of departure which is not ideal as you lose an hour due to time change when entering Spain. I instead would recommend taking the water taxi down the road which was 2€ cheaper and we saw running on time.

There is a an alternate route available to Bar Baracuda just before Caminha. It goes through lovely pine forest. Much to our surprise and delight, there is a water taxi operating adjacent to the bar.

The taxi crosses at the mouth of the river and the detour avoids Caminha, cutting off several
Kilometres of walking to a Guarda.

I don’t know how long/how often this company will run, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Taxi boat is not operating. Only Xacobeotransfer.com make sure you chose Caminha to AGuarda option if going north. €6

We booked xacobeo transfer online the night before. The collection point was marked on the quayside by a banner. It was a stormy day but the boat still ran. Skipper showed up on time and the crossing was smoothly done.

Note it was a long walk to a Guarda and it wasn’t well marked (we got lost for a while)

I used Xacotransfer yesterday. €6 and he goes straight away. He is the first you will see at the port. Great service.
