Chiesa ottagonale di Eunate, risalente al XII secolo.

La storia di quest’eremo è ancora al centro di un vivo dibattito, che divide l’opinione in merito in due parti: una crede che la sua origine sia legata ai Cavalieri Templari, l’altra pensa che si trattasse di una cappella funeraria. Lasciate perdere la diatriba; godetevi l’ambientazione bucolica che vi circonda e la visione contemplativa di questa perla di architettura antica.

Da novembre a febbraio è chiusa.

Ho avuto una visita davvero piacevole qui oggi. Ho scoperto per caso una messa in inglese - che sorpresa! C'è un WC qui e una fontana.

Questo è un edificio così insolito e molto storico. Ho pernottato a Uterga la notte prima ed è stata una bella passeggiata di circa 1,5 ore. Sono arrivato prima dell'apertura alle 10 ma volevo vedere l'interno. Il costo è inferiore a 2€ per i pellegrini. Se hai tempo, consiglio vivamente questa opzione. Quando arrivi a Obanos c'è un bel bar sulla Plaza de Guillermo chiamato Bar Guillermo. Fuori dal percorso principale dei pellegrini, quindi sembra molto locale. Da lì una facile passeggiata fino a Puenta La Reina.

There is a schedule online, saying that this chapel would only be open during the weekend in October. I decided to try going there anyway on a Tuesday and the chapel happened to be open for visits. If you can stand walking 2km in the plain sun, make the detour. It's simple but beautiful. Worth the 1,5€.

If you have extra energy only do this. Hours are incorrect. I walked the extra km but it was closed. No shade! You will melt unless it is early in the day.

It’s annoying that you circle back to Obanos but that is the Camino. This is so worth your walk to get to it. You can see it as soon as you leave town so you know just how far it is. We went on a Sunday afternoon and they happened to be open. So grateful!

I was told I could bypass Obanos and take a "back way" from Eunate to Puente La Reina. I never found it. I wound up walking along NA-1110 for about 2.5 km. It was stressful, but the church was well worth the effort.
