PERCORSO ALTERNATIVO DA BORRENES A LAS MÉDULAS

Questo percorso fuoristrada ti porta direttamente all'iconico belvedere di Orellán (Mirador de Orellán), il punto da cui si gode la migliore vista di Las Médulas. Passerai anche davanti alle gallerie (visitabili), gli antichi tunnel che spingevano l'acqua attraverso spazi sempre più stretti e a velocità crescente per far esplodere le colline e liberare l'oro. Dal mirador, puoi scendere fino al villaggio di Las Médulas, oppure evitare completamente il villaggio proseguendo fino a Puente Domingo Flórez. L'alternativa è di circa 11 km con un dislivello totale di 475 metri.

Il percorso ufficiale del Cammino da Borrenes fino a Las Médulas ha circa 300 metri di dislivello, ma ricorda che se vuoi visitare il punto panoramico di Orellán, dovrai percorrere quei metri di dislivello in più a un certo punto!

Saturno e Soledad (alias Marisol) nel Centro de Turismo Rural Cornatel possono darti molte informazioni.

L'alternativa è abbastanza ben segnalata, ma è consigliabile utilizzare un GPS. Questa strada ha il grande vantaggio di farti raggiungere il miglior punto panoramico di Las Médulas prima di arrivare in città, lasciandoti il pomeriggio libero per altre cose. Il dislivello è maggiore rispetto al percorso ufficiale ed è anche più lungo di 4 km.

Abbiamo seguito l'alternativa da Borrrenes a Orellan. La vegetazione intricata segnalata nei commenti precedenti è stata ripulita, e il sentiero è perfettamente percorribile, oltre a essere bellissimo. C'erano poche tracce degli incendi recenti fino a quando abbiamo raggiunto il paese di Orellan, e per la breve distanza da lì al belvedere, i lavoratori locali ci hanno consigliato di rimanere sulla strada priva di traffico. Le gallerie sono chiuse per le visite a causa degli incendi, ma le viste meravigliose rimangono. Come notato sopra, il sentiero non è segnalato, quindi il GPS è essenziale. 26/9/25.

In order to have an easier time with the terrain and way-marking I suggest staying on the road from Borrenes past La Chana.
The path wasn’t cleared at all after La Chana. There was tall grass everywhere and overgrown bushes, shrubs, and thorny plants. I had to shove past large brambles blocking the path more than once and had limited ground visibility. Wild boars are in the forest too so be sure to make enough noise so they hear you coming. In the end, the approach is nicer than entering las médulas town and then climbing up to the viewpoint.

The first part on the alternate route (up until Orellán) is not marked at all and a lot of areas that not taken care of. It doesn’t seem like a lot of people are using this path so depending on the day it might take some effort to get through high grass and wilderness. In my case I also had to claim across two rockfall areas and fallen trees. The climbs and descends are relatively steep with uneven grounds with rocks or grown over paths and if the weather is not good it can get quite dangerous. Make sure to watch your GPS as it is easy to get off track in a few spots. If you are fit, confident in your abilities, and not overly sore (or handicapped by an injury/condition or bad blisters of previous days) it is absolutely worth the extra effort. The hike between Orellán and the Mirador de Orellán is well marked and relatively easy (some steep areas but walkable wide paths) and you are rewarded by gorgeous views across the hills. The Mirador de Orellán itself is an incredible viewpoint and definitely worth a detour.
