Villafranca del Bierzo

Description and Notice

Gli hospitaleros parlano bene l'inglese e sono tra i più gentili del Cammino. Il fiume si trova proprio di fronte ed è il posto migliore per mettere i piedi a mollo.

Tutti i letti bassi!

NOTA: Se soggiorni qui e vuoi fare la deviazione per Pradela quando lasci Villafranca, assicurati di tornare indietro verso Villafranca per un breve tratto e prendere il sentiero che gira bruscamente a sinistra.

I saw the ads for this Albergue upon entering villafranca and wasn’t able to locate it till my second day as it’s past the plaza and across the bridge, which is less than a 5 minute walk from the plaza etc. This place is a true gem along the Camino and is everything the reviews state and more, it’s exceptional value and was very welcoming, the hosts (owners) are charming and the entire building was clean, well presented with good services and amenities - make this place your stop in villafranca (it’s also on the route - bonus) you won’t be disappointed

I stayed here two nights ago and for 20 euros got a private room that had a window into the hallway instead of to the outside. You could fully close the window, so it wasn't an issue of light. The room got a little hot but there was a fan with remote control! For an extra 3 euros you would get a little breakfast basket with a ham and cheese sandwich, Orange juice, and cake that I ate later in the day. Also downstairs there is coffee and tea available around the clock.

Lovely people, very clean, comfortable beds and a very kind/chill vibe. If you have problems with stairs, that may be a problem but that’s the ONLY negative I can think of. Highly recommended. Stayed on May 5, 2024 and June 2017.

The albergue is one of the last ones in town but it’s so worth it; LOWER BUNKS, the kindest people, they offered water and seats before checking you in; gave us extra blankets if you wanted. Yes, across the river to soak your tired feet! The lady drew me a map with colores to go downtown and her husband loaned dry clothes to my friends who had all his clothes in the laundry. Highly recommended

They wash and folded our laundry for 6€

Their pre packaged breakfast was a great start to our day.

Rooms were spacious and offered a clothing line out the window.

Super friendly and helpful

This is a beautiful albergue. Dorm room has a balcony and floor to ceiling window. Day 25 of my Camino and this is one of my favorites so far. I highly recommend Albergue de la Piedra.

Single beds in dorms, updated facilities, full kitchen, built into the hill so some rock is part of the building, at the end of town for an easier start, bagged breakfast available for purchase, nice owner, will spin dry hand-washed laundry for free. Close to grocery store and restaurant. Close access to river if you want to cool your feet. Definitely worth a stop!

This place was great! Wonderful hosts! Thoughtful! I agree with the positive comments. The single real beds not double bunks is proof positive that they care and are not money hungry!

This alburgue is perfect. Our own room for €36. An excellent and well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable. The hosts are lovely and I loved their dog.

So lovely I had a rest day here. The dormitory beds are beds, not bunks. There are shelves next to each bed with three for four sockets each. Tea and coffee on arrival and available throughout your stay. The handwashing sinks are decent and clean and you can have your clothes spun for free. The dorm has hangers for your washing. Great kitchen. They were also very accomodating when I wanted a bed and there was a wait list. They had great communication and were friendly. Get the sense the couple did the Camino themselves and then opened one up to serve. I will remember this place.
