Stopping here is a must, as trying to do Roncesvalles in one day can kill your camino just as you're starting out. It's also a great albergue, very friendly owners, vegetarian dinners on request, and the view from their patio is stunning. The only drawback is that breakfast is only at 7.30, which prevents an early start.

Camino de Sant…

Six weeks ago I stopped for a coffee and something to eat. Already the place was full of young healthy looking walkers. It is a shame that older, less able pilgrims have to walk the full distance to Roncesvalles because they do not have the option of staying at Orisson.
Orisson should give priority to older pilgrims rather than well off young fit walkers.
Having said that, Orisson is run as a business rather than a true pilgrim refuge.the prices charged underline that fact.

Lovely place, amazing stuff, amazing view, delicious food.
Can't recommend enough!

Camino de Sant…

IFriendly staff, clean facilities, and meet lots is new Camino friends. As of June 9 2021 it is easy to get a reservation, even same day, since less people are hiking due to ongoing COVID restrictions.

Camino de Sant…

Great place to stay. This was a welcome stopping point before going over the mountain. We walked with the friends we made at dinner for the entire Camino. This fellowship alone makes the stay worthwhile. We stayed in the private cottage out back. No electricity and the restroom is inside the main building. It’s a long walk in the dark for the restroom. I understand they do not have internet at the facility. If you make reservations wait several days then check your spam folder for replies. The staff is very friendly.

Camino de Sant…

Fantastic start to the journey. It really was only a couple of hours walking from st Jean, so we probably didn't need to leave as early as we did. The food was great and having everyone introduce themselves and explain why they were on the Camino was really touching. It created an instant bond which stayed with us through the entire Camino. Would absolutely recommend!

Camino de Sant…

Definitely stop and refuel. The climb to Here is the steepest of the whole section to Roncesvalles. Stop and recharge. If the weather is threatening or it’s getting late consoler overnighting. We met several people on the next section who had not refuelled and refreshed their water - apart from water and possibly a van selling snacks there is NOTHING until Roncesvalles. Be prepared.

Can someone confirm Orrison Albergue is still in open for business? Thanks, Sue.

Camino de Sant…

Awesome stay - everything about it! The beds are great, double room was a treat with private sitting area and fireplace. The food was tasty and abundant. The communal dinner was arranged so pilgrims could share a little about themselves and those are still the pilgrims we greet and catch up with along the way. The host, Laurent, is a treasure - easy to work with and sincere in his desire to serve the pilgrim community. Cannot recommend enough and so happy we started our Camino with this as our first stop.
