Albergue del Escamplero

Escamplero

Description and Notice

We arrived on Tuesday so the restaurant was closed. Consequently we could not get a mattress cover. The mattress was far from clean. The shop is limited so food was in short supply. This was my 8 Camino and this Albergue ranks as one of the worst I have experienced. Buy hey for €6 what do you expect!

It is a quite self-management place.
The first arrived have to look for the key to the restaurant 100m before.

Rustik but quite clean for hiking and pilgrim.

Pay 6€ and receive sheet in the restaurant before arriving.
For diner and breakfast you can buy some simple things in the small shop and use the simple kitchen. Or diner with a dish around 17€ in the restaurant.

If you have to stop here, its a bed for the night. One shower had hot water, the others did not. It was pretty dirty and not well maintained. It was our first stop and far and away the worst place we stayed.

Simple albergue with beds both up and downstairs. 6€ includes new disposable sheets. Shower downstairs clogs but not the 2 upstairs. Microwave not working but stove effective. Many pilgrims cooked and shared food. There were cards to play games and get to know first day pilgrims. Views are beautiful. Lack of amenities make it easy to make friends.

Really good price for 6 euros. The cheapest place i stayed on the camino. You have to go to the restaurant up the road to check in before you go to the hostel. Kitchen, bathroom and beds clean. Lockers avail. Unfortunately the shower does clog so after 5 mins there's a pool of water. Kitchen has all utensils, including working microwave and fridge. Working power sockets. There's fleece blankets. Small but lovely eating area and outdoor area. Only 3 ppl stayed here including me yesterday night.

Having been on the Camino eight times I can honestly say this is in my top 3 worst albergues. I don’t want to think about the beds and what might live there. Skip if at all possible. The nearby shop is not well stocked and hygiene is not a top priority.

When asked if they had a pilgrim menu, they said "we have dinner at 7". No pilgrim menu. We ordered the cheapest things on the menu, at 11 and 12 Euros. They charged 5 Euros for the 4 slices of bread they brought to the table. I've never been charged for the bread they bring to the table in my life. They also brought bottled water, already opened, and tried to embarass us into buying dessert. For a meal that should have cost 10, we paid 33. If you're on a budget or just generally against highway robbery, avoid this place. It seems like a place to trick pilgrims into spending money

Stayed today 27/5 and there is no hot water. The price is €6 and the restaurant where you get the keys is 300m before the albergue.

It's okay, bed was comfortable, the shower drainage had not been cleaned for a long while, which meant the water overflowed onto the floor. The place just had a grubby/uncared for feel to it. I was dreading the rest of the Albergues, as this was my first, however they have all been much better.
