I stayed here alone on the 22 Sept and loved the place. It has only 4 beds but they’re located in a large room with lots of windows (with shutters), a large table and lots of chairs and plenty of blankets.
It’s the only albergue I’ve stayed in where the disposable sheet pack included a top sheet, both bathrooms had paper hand towels and lots of toilet paper, and the kitchen was equipped with microwave, sink and several plates, cups and disposable cutlery. And it’s all offered on a donativo, pay-what-you-are-able-to basis.
Clothes line in direct sunlight outside, right next to the church, and food and drinks/coffee machines stocked with items for anyone who hadn’t carried their own food.
But best of all was the friendly, relaxed and very helpful attitude of the two Hospitaleros who share responsibility for the Albergue. I spoke to Flor a few days before by phone and called her the morning I left León (at her request) and she had found out the closing time of the supermarket in Carbajal for me, as it was a Sunday, so I could stop and buy food on the way. Then, when I arrived, Toño was on duty and came to register me, only to discover that the pilgrim who stayed the night before had taken the keys with him. “It happens” was his philosophical attitude “I’ll just have to get more cut” before explaining everything to me and showing me how to lock the albergue securely from within.
Everything beautifully clean and new-looking and, when I thanked Toño for the hospitality of the village towards pilgrims he just smiled and said “It’s what we’re here for”.
