The Road

We had a shorter day from Güemes to Somo and throughly enjoyed our costal walk of approx 14km. The beach in Somo is beautiful however our accommodation felt overpriced for what it was. The surf scene in Somo is big and as it was a surf
event week, we paid approx €85 euros for two bunk beds in Alhoa surf hostel. The staff were friendly however the facilities were not up to scratch given the price tag- our under bed lockers wouldn’t lock meaning we left our valuables in the surf school when going for a swim in the sea. They attempted to fix but couldn’t . The showers and bathrooms were dirty and no soap- something you’d expect for the price!

Food in the bars and restaurants was expensive and we had to make a quick dash out of Somo the following day as most of the early ferry crossings were cancelled. The ferry ride was lovely and we paid for our tickets at a little machine by the ferry stop which took card. I would 100% recommended the ferry ride as a fun and pretty way to enter Santander !

Ferry does not run when the tide is too low. Continue walking over the bridge and board ferry at Pedrena.

Ferry location is on google maps as “embarcados de somo”. It was very well marked, with Camino signs pointing the way. Tickets were €3.50 for a single and they take card. Well worth it!

Stayed at Surf to Live Hostel. A ways up the hill but very chill place, and good value. Good people, and they have surf gear too.
