Hvis du vælger at overnatte i Sahagún, så gør dit bedste for at udforske byen. Det er ikke det kønneste sted, men der gemmer sig et par perler, som giver dig et glimt af dens berømte fortid. På et tidspunkt konkurrerede den med Burgos og León i betydning og storhed.

Af ukendte årsager har rådhuset tegnet camino-stien gennem byen på en måde, så den springer næsten alle bygninger over, der er værd at se, og som går helt uden om plaza mayor. Hvis du vil gå på opdagelse, må du forlade den markerede sti; se det grønne alternativ på kortet.

Notice

Et meget flot certifikat kan fås fra Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina på vej ud af Sahagún, en slags halvvejs Compostela. Se kortet for placeringen, da det ikke er på selve caminoen.

Fiesta

Markedsdag er lørdag. Vinterpilgrimme kan fejre San Tirso den 28. januar. San Juan de Sahagún den 12. og 13. juni. Fiesta de Peregrina den 2. juli, og San Lorenzo den 9. og 10. august.

History

Sahagún skylder sit navn til martyren San Facundo fra det 4. århundrede, som sammen med San Primitivo blev begravet i nærheden. På grund af dette har der været mere end rigeligt med kampe mellem kristne og muslimer. Selvom de kristne i sidste ende vandt, var det ikke før byen skiftede hænder ikke mindre end fem gange. Ved hver udskiftning blev kirker ødelagt og genopbygget. I dag er der kun 4 af de oprindelige 9 kirker tilbage.

I had to make a last-minute booking in Sahagún due to a foot problem. The 3rd week in May 2024 on the Camino has been chilly, good for pilgrims but not good when the hotel won’t turn heat on until 6 pm. Today at 2 pm it was 13c/55f outside and colder inside the hotel. They advertise air conditioning, but if you have guests in the hotel, shouldn’t heat be an option in the rooms too?

I highly recommend staying at the Hostal- Albergue Sahagun. It’s a great place and the hosts are so welcoming and kind. I stayed there for a few extra days and it was really fun. Great food and atmosphere.

This hostal is very nice! Very clean, looks new, modern bathrooms. Staff is very friendly. Definitely recommend it!

As noted in Wise Pilgrim’s notes on Sahagún, an attractive halfway certificate is available at the Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina. The cost (May 2023) is 4€ including a cardboard tube.
The certificate is NOT available at the Oficina de Turismo and the staff there seem a little tired of being asked for one.

Stop at the Oficina de Turismo de Sahagún (also the muni albergue) to get the halfway certificate! €3 plus €1 if you want a cardboard tube to put it in.

Camino de Sant…

We stayed here last year in a twin room with bathroom and made a bee line for them this year. You will never experience a more pilgrim orientated stay on the Camino. Our private room cost 10 euros each, the bunks are 6. Breakfast is help yourself and leave a donation and mass for those who wish to go. Super clean quiet and comfortable with a really tranquil atmosphere. Perfect to recharge you batteries. The eving meal is included in the price, basic but good, please note, not on a Sunday.

Camino de Sant…

The compostela is not available at the church. I went there today and had to walk back into town to the biblioteca, library, in Plaza de Santiago to get it. It looks well and is printed in colour so I went across the road from the library to the post office, correos, and posted it home as I didn't want to damage it.
