Navnet Itziar, og et par afledninger af det, er et populært navn, der gives til baskiske kvinder. Oprindelsen går tilbage til det 8. århundrede, hvor der blev bygget et tempel til ære for Santa Maria de Itziar. Hendes statue står her stadig, og den æres lige så meget af sømænd som af pilgrimme.

The Road

Fra Itziar drejer caminoen mod nord for at vende tilbage til havet ved Deba. Forbi kirken drejer du til højre ved den første forgrening og følger landevejen. Du vil ikke bemærke flere motorveje, mens du snor dig mod Deba, men de graver sig ikke desto mindre ned under dig.

We read comments that there is nothing in this town so stopped at a terrible cafe at the bottom of the hill next to the highway where we were charged 17 euro for 2x bocadillos with nothing but meat in them and 2x cokes. When we walked through this town there were at least 2x bars that were open. This was around 1pm end of a July

I found this hotel, it's 2km off track, but then there is a shortcut to Deba so no additional length.
€75 for room for two with ensuite. Really nice place, helpful staff and good food
