Just before reaching Mercadinho da Vila you have to follow the yellow arrows into the woods. This will spare you the busy road but is not on the map.

The camino goes to the left into the woods just in front of Mercadinho da Vila and joins the road again at the intersection next to Casa de Afonso. Following the traffic is very dangerous there indeed, I can speak of experience...
